| Description | JOB SUMMARY:
A substitute teacher fills in for regular classroom teachers when they are absent, following lesson plans and maintaining a productive learning environment. Responsibilities include teaching assigned subjects, managing classroom behavior, and providing feedback to regular teachers about student progress. Flexibility, adaptability, and strong communication skills are essential in this role.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Knowledge of and ability to assist LEP (Limited English Proficiency) and ESS students.
- Participation in professional development/training on current philosophy, theories, principles, and techniques of education to carry out the assigned teaching responsibilities.
- Ability to recognize when a counselor and/or administrator is needed.
- Skill and ability to give direction and work cooperatively with SPED Instructional Aides and Teacher Aides.
- Ability to exercise initiative and resourcefulness in conferring with parents, guardian and students regarding progress, behavior, and adjustment to class/school routine.
- Teaches students by selecting, developing, adapting, and implementing appropriate instructional methods and techniques utilizing available resources to provide academic achievement.
- Provides learning experiences in assigned subject areas which develop cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills that are appropriate to the needs and interests of all the students in the class.
- Plans techniques and/or methods that will lead students into decision-making problem-solving skills.
- Continuously evaluates individual and group academic progress through the use of criterion-referenced tests, periodic standardized tests, oral tests and/or other relevant evaluative methods/instruments. Uses alternative instruction to meet individual needs.
- Communicates with parents regarding student academic performance and behavior as needed.
- Supervises assigned students as scheduled, throughout the academic day and or activity in order to provide for the safety, health, and welfare of the students in compliance with the school, Agency and Federal guidelines.
- Follows lesson plans with quality and fidelity.
- Maintains positive learning environment.
- Enforces school policy within the classroom.
- Reports all behavioral issues to security and/or principal.
- Maintains attendance records.
- Leaves notes and completed work for teacher review at the end of each period / day.
- Provides for the proper care and use of assigned supplies and equipment.
- Develops and conducts instruction within an environment that provides and promotes opportunities for the students to develop rapport, inter-relationships, self-discipline, and a positive self-image.
- Establishing, maintaining, and supporting positive and effective working relationships with colleagues, departments, outside agencies, and stakeholders involves clear communication, collaboration, and mutual respect.
- Utilizing various communication channels, including social media, can enhance connectivity and engagement, fostering stronger connections and facilitating effective collaboration.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Will support and comply with the Rock Point Community School philosophy, mission, and vision statement.
- Will have four (4) hours Prevention of Sexual Harassment training annually.
- Will have two (2) hours of SCAN procedures and reporting annually.
- Be in compliance and maintain confidentiality according to FERPA (Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess valid Arizona State Substitute Teaching Certificate.
- High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required: or Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate educational field.
- Strong communication and presentation style.
- Proven Classroom Management skills
- Willing to accept early morning calls and same day assignments.
- Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with the RPCS Policy and Procedures, and other reporting policies and procedures of the tribe, state, and federal government.
- Must have minimal knowledge of Dine language, culture, history, traditions, and its people for compliance in all aspects of educational programs.
- Have current CPR & 1st Aide Certification and basic safety training.
- Must have a valid government issued driver’s license or identification card.
- Must have Federal, Arizona, and Navajo Nation background clearance.
