Description | JOB SUMMARY:
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the safety, security, and welfare of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors in Rock Point Community Schools while under the direction and supervision of the Facility Manager. This position will work to foster positive relationships with students and the learning community while also working in tandem with existing administrative practices and building procedures to maintain order, prevent crime, and assist the building Administration with the operations of the school-on-school property or at school- sponsored events when necessary and appropriate.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ensures the security, safety, and well-being of all personnel, visitors, and the premises. 2. Patrols and monitors assigned areas of the school buildings, grounds and parking lots, campus housing to deter, detect, report, and stop violations of the law and/or school policies. 3. Secures premises and personnel by controlling entry and screening all visitors per school policy. 4. Detects, investigates, and reports unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles, and activities. 5. Secure campus facilities and equipment for Rock Point Community School. 6. Ensure doors/gates are locked and opened at designated times determined by supervisor. 7. Watches for and reports irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations; contacts emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel, as required. 8. Performs periodic checks of outdoor street lighting to ensure proper function; reports malfunctions as required. 9. Assist in development and implementation of action plans to provide a safe environment and immediate response to imminent threats of violence, criminal incidents, emergency medical incidents, auto accidents, and others. 10. Assist with controlling classroom disturbances or acts of defiance. Request assistance from school administration and/or police when necessary. 11. Patrol and confront unauthorized persons for questioning and checking for passes and identification cards as needed. 12. Direct traffic and parking on campus; check vehicles for proper parking authorization; determine if vehicles are parked in restricted area. 13. Maintain proper paperwork/reports to ensure all complaints filed with facilities have been signed by the Facility Manager or their designated representative. 14. Recommend, establish, and implement appropriate security policies to ensure the safety of students, staff, visitors, and all school property. 15. Assists injured persons and determines appropriate action in a timely manner including contacting emergency medical personnel when necessary. 16. Submit daily report of activities, events, and incidents to the Facility Manager. 17. Obtain quotes as necessary to procure supplies, equipment, and materials. 18. Maintain assigned equipment including security vehicle. 19. Assist school personnel in the supervision and control of students, as necessary and/or the discretion of the Principal. 20. Attend department/safety meetings and other related meetings as required. 21. Assists other departments as required for the purpose of student safety and supporting programmatic activities (e.g. inclement weather transport, emergency transport, graduation, security, annual song and dance festival, etc.). 22. May be required to serve as a Volunteer Firefighter for local Fire Department, responding to false alarm or actual fire suppression and fire protection program. 23. Assists in implementing emergency planning and response. 24. Required to work evenings, days, weekends and/or call backs. 25. Establishing, maintaining, and supporting positive and effective working relationships with colleagues, departments, outside agencies, and stakeholders involves clear communication, collaboration, and mutual respect. 26. Utilizing various communication channels, including social media, can enhance connectivity and engagement, fostering stronger connections and facilitating effective collaboration. 27. Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Will support and comply with the Rock Point Community School philosophy, mission, and vision statement. 2. Will have four (4) hours Prevention of Sexual Harassment training annually. 3. Will have two (2) hours of SCAN procedures and reporting annually. 4. Be in compliance and maintain confidentiality and proper storage of files according to FERPA (Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act). 5. Must be certified in De-Escalation, Communicating with Tact & Finesse, Crisis Intervention Techniques, Report Writing, Defensive Tactics, less then Lethal OC & Baton, Non-Physical Restraints, Campus Response, Communicating with Law Enforcement, Pedestrian & Vehicle Contact.
PHYSICAL and MENTAL DEMANDS:
1. Must have the ability to sit, stand, kneel, stoop, climb stairs, and walk for extended periods of time, and run for short periods of time. 2. Must have the ability to lift and move weights up to 50 lbs. 3. Must not have any limitations of motion, and vision and hearing should be rated as acceptable to obtain the required driver's license. 4. Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, key a two-way radio microphone, operate a keyboard, and use a lock and key devices. 5. During an emergency, the ability to work in a fast paced and stressful environment while maintaining the ability to articulate and communicate in an effective manner. 6. Have the visual acuity necessary to observe and comprehend student movement. 7. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. 8. Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing, comprehend, and perform functions from oral and written instructions and from observing others. Must have the ability to evaluate written materials.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate required. 2. Three (3) years experience as a security guard or related work experience. 3. Be able to maintain current certification, in accepted security practices for security enforcement profession, (i.e. Basic Security Self Defense, Baton, Handcuffing & Chemical Agents). 4. Must be able to use good judgment, analytical planning, and creativity in developing solutions to both emergency and non-emergency situations. 5. Must have effective communication skills in English and Navajo language. 6. Must be able to perform physically demanding work, extensive walking and working in adverse weather conditions. 7. Must be able to lift 75 pounds or more. 8. Must be computer literate. 9. Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with the RPCS Policy and Procedures, and other reporting policies and procedures of the tribe, state, and federal government. 10. Must have minimal knowledge of Dine language, culture, history, traditions, and its people for compliance in all aspects of educational programs. 11. Have current CPR & First Aid Certification and basic safety training. 12. Must have a valid government issued driver’s license or identification card. 13. Must have Federal, Arizona, and Navajo Nation background clearances. |
