JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Maintenance Worker is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of school facilities. Responsibilities include performing routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning classrooms, restrooms, and common areas, repairing and maintaining equipment and systems, addressing facility-related issues promptly, and assisting with setting up for events and activities. Additionally, they may collaborate with other staff members to prioritize maintenance needs, maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, and adhere to safety protocols and regulations. This role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team to uphold a conducive learning environment for students and staff.

 

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Maintains preventive maintenance (PM) on heating cooling systems required by the MAXIMO system.
  2. Performs general maintenance on equipment, sewer lines, distribution system, drainage, painting of buildings and rooms; replacing floor tiles; minor electrical repairs on appliances; repairs on drinking fountains, windows, doors/hardware; minor repairs on roof, swamp coolers, exhaust fans.
  3. Performs PM schedule on all school equipment, fire alarm system, utility lines, playgrounds, etc.
  4. Responds to emergency situations (e.g. broken/clogged pipes/drains, faucets, gutters, sprinkler heads, grease traps, fixtures, etc.) for the purpose resolving immediate safety concerns.
  5. Performs general carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and welding.
  6. Maintains shop area and work sites in a safe, clean, and orderly environment; adheres to safety according to established laws, codes, and regulations.
  7. Assists other departments as required for the purpose of student safety and supporting programmatic activities (e.g. inclement weather transport, emergency transport, graduation, security, annual song and dance festival, etc.).
  8. Inspects facilities, systems, and components for the purpose of identifying necessary repairs.
  9. Complies with OSHA requirements and standards while at work site and report any safety deficiencies to Supervisor.
  10. Exercises safe handling and application of hazardous chemicals or substances according to Standard Operating Procedures (HAZCOM/AHERA).
  11. Assists in implementing emergency planning and response.
  12. Must utilize MAXIMO to document completed tasks including work tickets.
  13. Attend department/safety meetings and other related meetings as required.
  14. May be required to serve as a Volunteer Firefighter for local Fire Department, responding to false alarm or actual fire suppression and fire protection program.
  15. Assists in implementing emergency planning and response.
  16. May be asked to assist security as a backup in patrolling buildings, play area, and school campus.
  17. Required to work evenings, days, weekends and/or call backs.
  18. Establishing, maintaining, and supporting positive and effective working relationships with colleagues, departments, outside agencies, and stakeholders involves clear communication, collaboration, and mutual respect.
  19. Utilizing various communication channels, including social media, can enhance connectivity and engagement, fostering stronger connections and facilitating effective collaboration.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

 

Climbing ladders, scaffolding, and working in hard-to-reach places. Work requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and crawling when making repairs, i.e., crawling under building sand in service tunnels. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up tools, equipment and parts weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally objects weighing more than 50 pounds. Be able to wear respiratory equipment in confined work areas, may have to wear rubberized protective clothing.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Works inside and outside and is subject to all types of conditions from high temperature to unheated dark, dusty crawl spaces and noisy, dirty, and smelly areas. Occasionally is required to work outside in bad weather. May be exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electric shock, danger of boiler burst, carbon monoxide poisoning, scalds and gas or sulfur fumes. Cuts, bruises, etc. may result from accidents while working around equipment and machinery. Handles toxic or corrosive chemicals used to treat or maintain mechanical equipment.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  1. Will support and comply with the Rock Point Community School philosophy, mission, and vision statement.
  2. Will have four (4) hours Prevention of Sexual Harassment training annually.
  3. Will have two (2) hours of SCAN procedures and reporting annually.
  4. Be in compliance and maintain confidentiality and proper storage of files according to FERPA (Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act).

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Must have high school education or equivalency.
  2. Must be actively pursuing AA degree in Construction Technology/Building Maintenance and /or equivalent training and / or certifications.
  3. Must have at least 3 years work experience in facility maintenance.
  4. Must have 3 years continuous employment with previous employer.
  5. Have knowledge in inventory of material and buildings.
  6. Must be able to lift 75lbs. or more with safety precautions.
  7. Must have MAXIMO training and be familiar with ordering process.
  8. Certification in AHERA/Asbestos.
  9. Must have Hazardous Waste Health and Safety Training.
  10. Certification in water treatment, distribution, and protection; familiar with Navajo Nation Safe Drinking Water Act.
  11. Ability to perform intense labor work.
  12. Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with the RPCS Policy and Procedures, and other reporting policies and procedures of the tribe, state, and federal government.
  13. Must have minimal knowledge of Dine language, culture, history, traditions, and its people for compliance in all aspects of educational programs.
  14. Have current CPR & First Aid Certification and basic safety training.
  15. Must have a valid government issued driver’s license or identification card.
  16. Must have Federal, Arizona, and Navajo Nation background clearance.
