DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Will support and comply with the Rock Point Community School philosophy, mission, and vision statement.
  2. Will have four (4) hours Prevention of Sexual Harassment training annually.
  3. Will have two (2) hours of SCAN procedures and reporting annually.
  4. Be in compliance and maintain confidentiality according to FERPA (Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act).
  5. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff.
  6. Assists classroom teachers with implementing daily educational activities, with planning and developing classroom activities based on the individual needs of the students that promote academic achievement and supports the core curriculum.
  7. Assists with students working in small groups, may lead group activities, co-teach and conduct one on one session.
  8. Uphold standards of conduct in the classroom aligned to the student handbook.
  9. Establish and maintain a supportive, safe learning environment.
  10. Use the referral process in place to support classroom management.
  11. Follows student IEPs modifications and accommodations as prescribed by ESS and certified staff.
  12. To assist, support, and work closely with teachers, administrators, and other team members in providing educational benefit for all students.
  13. Works cooperatively with other staff for the planning and implementation of special events.
  14. Implements age/ability appropriate corrective measures/discipline as needed/appropriate for management of classroom environment.
  15. Reviews upcoming lesson plans, prepares modification and accommodation material in support of lessons’ goals/objectives.
  16. May monitor student activities/behavior during all group activities including meals, field trips, recess, and other school events.
  17. Administers emergency/basic first aid to students/assists in getting student to health aide office.
  18. Assists when appropriate with related service providers; OT, PT, Speech, Vision, Hearing, Counseling, etc.
  19. May transport students to primary residence and to service providers along with another staff member as necessary.
  20. Participates in a variety of professional development/improvement programs including PLCs and PODs
  21. Works with staff for development of annual program goals/objectives.
  22. May escort students to the restroom and/or instructs students in proper hygiene procedures working with health aide and PE teachers.
  23. Will maintain and complete daily service logs per student needs.
  24. Performs assigned supervision of students during lunch periods, play periods, and on field trips.
  25. Performs assigned non-instructional classroom duties, such as snack time, toileting, and clothing routines.
  26. Will assist with state wide testing as a proctor to ensure students are provided accommodations based on their SEPs.
  27. Will monitor student progress by completing bi-weekly grade checks and provide input for quarterly progress reports.
  28. Alerts the certified staff / building administration to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  29. Performs clerical, classroom maintenance, and instructional duties as assigned by the certified staff.
  30. Will provide input to complete Local School Performance Plan and department budget.
  31. Establishes, maintains, and supports positive and effective working relationships with all colleagues, departments, outside agencies, and stakeholders including online communication, such as the usage of social media.
  32. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE:

 

Employee will have knowledge of concepts of grammar and punctuation; stages of child development and learning styles; age appropriate activities; classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct; safe practices in classroom and playground activities; health standards and hazards; safety practices and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Preferably an Associate’s Degree or 60 college credit hours (units) as required by the ESEA..
  2. Experience equivalent to two years of full time experience with the age population.
  3. Must have HIPPA/Privacy in House Training (confidentiality training).
  4. Have basic knowledge of special education and gifted and talented education laws and regulations.
  5. Have basic knowledge of special education program referral process, evaluation, development and implementation of individual education programs.
  6. Should be able to speak and understand Navajo.
  7. Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with the RPCS Policy and Procedures, and other reporting policies and procedures of the tribe, state, and federal government.
  8. Must have minimal knowledge of Dine language, culture, history, traditions, and its people for compliance in all aspects of educational programs.
  9. Have current CPR & 1st Aide Certification and basic safety training.
  10. Must have valid government issued driver’s license or identification card.
  11. Must have Federal, Arizona, and Navajo Nation background clearances.
