DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Will support and comply with the Rock Point Community School philosophy, mission, and vision statement.
  2. Will have four (4) hours Prevention of Sexual Harassment training annually.
  3. Will have two (2) hours of SCAN procedures and reporting annually.
  4. Be in compliance and maintain confidentiality and proper storage of files according to FERPA (Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act).
  5. Works closely with the Curriculum Team to implement data driven Dine education plans and goals.
  6. Assists the administration, staff and teachers in improving the bilingual program.
  7. Collaborates and assists Secondary & Elementary Dine Studies teachers in the language and cultural programs by designing and modeling a developmentally and culturally appropriate curriculum.
  8. Provides resources and materials that fit the philosophy, curriculum, assessment framework, themes, school calendar and RPCS's mission and vision statements.
  9. Collaborates and assists the teachers in individual and small group settings to improve instruction and delivery of the curriculum that meets the individual needs, interests, and ability level of students while advising of cultural appropriateness.
  10. Coordinates and facilitates cultural based activities such as the Annual Song and Dance, Culture Bowl, Navajo Spelling Bee, Culture club field trips and other activities to promote RPCS.
  11. Observes instruction in the classroom and coaches teachers to improve learning outcomes using culturally responsive methods using the school observation protocol.
  12. Develop assessments to measure student achievement and effectiveness of culturally responsive teaching methods and resources.
  13. Communicates with parents, school counselors, teachers and administration to function effectively as part of the Instructional Leadership Team in the interest of each student.
  14. Establishes and organizes a collection of culturally related resource/materials for teachers to use and maintains current inventory and control of such equipment and materials.
  15. Assists, plans, and facilitates professional development for new strategies and methods for teaching Dine language and culture.
  16. Adheres to mandates of Navajo Nation, State, and Federal laws as well as established district policies.
  17. Assumes responsibility for own professional growth, development, competence, and professional organization for keeping current with culturally related literature and resources, new research findings, teaching techniques, and best practices.
  18. Assists in the preparation and submission of reports/applications required by the school, tribal, state or federal agencies for continuation or program establishment.
  19. Coordinates and administer assessments for the Dine Language and Culture.
  20. Coordinates English Learner program.
  21. Maintains school data for reporting grants and annual reports.
  22. Establishes, maintains, and supports positive and effective working relationships with all colleagues, departments, outside agencies, and stakeholders including online communication, such as the usage of social media.
  23. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. Arizona Teaching Certification.
  2. MA degree in Education.
  3. Must have Bilingual or SEI endorsement.
  4. Minimum of three (3) or more years of successful classroom teaching experience preferably in Dine Cultural and Language.
  5. Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all staff to positively promote Dine language and culture in the classroom.
  6. Ability to read, write, and speak in the Dine and English language fluently.
  7. Thorough Dine cultural knowledge and ability to work in culturally-based and academic standards based learning and teaching environment.
  8. Knowledge and experience in cross-curriculum development in all content areas.
  9. Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with the RPCS Policy and Procedures, and other reporting policies and procedures of the tribe, state, and federal government.
  10. Must have minimal knowledge of Dine language, culture, history, traditions, and its people for compliance in all aspects of educational programs.
  11. Have current CPR & 1st Aide Certification and basic safety training.
  12. Must have valid government issued driver’s license or identification card.
  13. Must have Federal, Arizona, and Navajo Nation background clearance.
  14. Must have credit check.
